Founded in the 1950's by Rev. Everett Swanson[?] to help street children orphaned by war in South Korea. Today, Compassion International functions in 23 countries, helping over 400,000 children. Compassion International allows contributors to sponsor a child; paying for their meals, clothing, and education, for $28 a month. Over 80% of monthly sponsorship goes directly to addressing the child's needs, and Compassion International publishes a yearly financial statement prepared by an independent accounting firm
Child sponsors can communicate with their children through letters, and some are able vist the children in person.
