The eastern Interstate 84 runs from Scranton, Pennsylvania at an intersection with Interstate 81 to Sturbridge, Massachusetts[?] at an intersection with Interstate 90.
Orginally the part of I-84 east of Hartford was numbered I-86 and I-84 was going to go to Providence. Only I-384 (and some memories of cryptic roadsigns saying first that I-84 was to become I-86 for no apparent reason, and then they said I-86 is now I-84) remains of this project.
The western Interstate 84 was originally numbered Interstate 80N. It was given its new designation in 1980.
