Robert Smith (born

1959) is the driving force behind
The Cure, an English band generally described as
goth, but considered by many as difficult to classify into one genre. Smith has written or co-written the bulk of the group's music and lyrics in a career spanning 25 years. His hair is legendary. His lyrics are often haunting and could be better described as poetry set to music.
Smith married Mary Poole in 1988.
