Savoy Ballroom

The Savoy Ballroom located in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, was a public place for music and dance shows from 1926 to 1958.

Many famous dances such as the Lindy Hop were created here. Benny Goodman and other well-known musicians regularly played the Savoy, and here Ella Fitzgerald caught her first successes.

The Big Band classic song and jazz standard Stompin' at the Savoy (lyrics by Andy Razaf - see here (http://www.thepeaches.com/music/ella/StompinAtTheSavoy.txt)) was named after the ballroom.
