Solaris (movie)

Redirected from Solaris (Tarkovsky's movie)

Filmed in Japan by Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky and based on the novel by Polish author Stanislaw Lem, the 1972 film Solaris (Солярис) was a Russian answer to 2001: A Space Odyssey and a cult science fiction film.

A second adaptation of Lem's novel by US director Steven Soderbergh was released in 2002. Kris Kelvin[?] is played by George Clooney, Harey (Rheya[?] in English version) by Natasha McElhone[?]. This film is a really slow, meditative psychodrama set on a space station. The trailers showing a sci-fi love story raised expectations that where not met, so many people where confused and disappointed. Additionally the burden of being compared to the much loved 1972 adaptation made it even more difficult to get positive critics. Nevertheless there have been really positive critics as well.
