The Strokes are an American
rock and roll band hailing from New York, endlessly hyped upon their debut in the
United Kingdom. The group,

Fabrizio Moretti[?], released their debut album
Is This It? in
2001. The group formed in
New York City and instantly gained fame for their live shows in New York. The band's members had been long-time fans, and several came from prestigious families, including the son of a modeling agency executive and a professional musician.
The Modern Age[?] (EP) was released in
2001 and sparked a bidding war as well as endless hype. After a level of fame not reached since
Oasis in the UK, the band finally released
Is This It? in
2002. The album sold well on both sides of the
Atlantic Ocean.
