Tundra

In physical geography, tundra is a large, mostly flat, expanse where tree growth is hindered by permafrost. Tundras are primarily found north of the taiga belt, and that includes northern Russia and Canada.

Tundra is also the name for an arctic and humid biome with

The tundra is home to several peoples who are mostly nomadic reindeer herders, among them are the Saami.

Due to the harsh climate of the tundra, regions of this kind has seen little exploitation even though they are rich in natural resources such as oil and uranium. In recent time this has begun to change, and in Russia and other parts of the world the tundra is being ever more subjected to human interference.
